Two mums who received support from Family Fund, shared the higher costs they face to buy and replace items in line with their children’s needs. The TV programme also showed the wide range of grant items we offer at Family Fund.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The story was prompted by the report ‘Additional family costs’, funded by Family Fund. It looks into the cost of raising children on the autism spectrum, which creates additional costs of over £215 a week. You can read more about this research report on our website.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rebecca and Noah’s story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rebecca lives in Stirlingshire, Scotland. The show featured Rebecca with her six-year-old son, Noah. Noah is autistic and has a rare genetic condition called adult-onset leukoencephalopathy. She received a washing machine from Family Fund. She said: “He gets through a lot of changes of clothes due to spilling things, or rolling on the ground, which he does a lot. It can be three changes of clothes just for the school day. Clothing just gets washed until it’s worn out. He’s also not toilet trained yet so sometimes we have accidents.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Apply for a grant now\n <\/a>\n\n\n\n

Family Fund grants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Family Fund is here for parents and carers on a low income, raising disabled and seriously ill children. Families can apply for a range of different items – such as kitchen appliances like a fridge, cooker, or washing machine; clothing or bedding, sensory or play equipment, technology items such as tablets and laptops, or even a much-needed family break.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
