Monday 5 to Friday 11 February 2024 is National Apprenticeship Week. In September 2023, Angelika joined the Comms & Marketing team for 18 months as Family Fund’s first apprentice. Today, we hear from Angelika about her experience so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I moved to the UK ten years ago and I have quite a varied background. I have a master’s degree in translation and interpreting and I worked as an interpreter for 2 years. But I also worked in a care home, organising activities for the residents. And I worked for police, to plan and staff events and protests, contributing to everyone’s safety. Throughout my previous roles I always found a sense of fulfilment that my skills made a difference to someone’s daily life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the last few years, I felt the need for a new challenge and wanted a role that would allow me to work with people and make a difference. I also wanted to be more creative and learn new skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think an apprenticeship is a great opportunity to start a new career path. It is the perfect way to learn, and gain experience in a new field at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Family Fund Communications and Marketing Apprenticeship advert instantly stood out for me. I was excited by the opportunity of becoming part of an organisation that makes a positive impact on the daily lives of families raising disabled or seriously ill children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a creative, active, independent person who enjoys variety, I wanted to incorporate more of this into a career focused around marketing and communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The skills for life I have developed over the past five months at Family Fund are invaluable. I have learnt how to write and pitch a press release, how to plan a marketing campaign and measure results. In addition, I gained new skills with graphic design tools and even helped organise an event! I also enjoy attending the webinars and in-person courses where I learn a lot about Public Relations and Communications from industry professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team at Family Fund are very supportive and always eager to help. I feel very lucky to be part of such a great team that has been so welcoming and open to share their knowledge with me. I am truly thriving in this environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One apprenticeship myth that has been busted for me is that apprenticeships are only for school leavers. I think that it is never too late for a career change. If you are like me and are considering changing your professional direction, but not sure where to start – apprenticeships are definitely the way to go!<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
