Starting in September, one Saturday a month, we’ll dive into the coding world. Join us to learn how to create animations and games in Scratch. All you need is a device (iPad, tablet, computer or phone) with an internet connection to join the fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have three sessions available, and each time we’ll build on our skills by exploring new ways to code. Although you don’t have to register for the series, we encourage you to sign-up for all three of them as each one gets more challenging than the last.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dancing dinosaurs (Sat 21 September) – <\/strong>Want to host a virtual party? Come along to our first coding session and learn how to create dinosaurs and make them dance on a disco stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Animate your name (Sat 19 October) – <\/strong>Level up and discover how to use block codes in Scratch to light up your name, make the letters move and even change colour like magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whack-A-Sprite (Sat 23 November) – <\/strong>Become a coding pro and create your own game! We’ll use Scratch to create a similar game to the popular ‘Whack-A-Mole’ where you’ll score points by clicking on the screen when a sprite appears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Register for Coding Saturday sessions\n <\/a>\n\n\n\n

Why are coding skills important?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“Learning to code is a great way for disabled and seriously ill children and young people to build their digital skills, explore new interests and improve confidence” said our Information and Support Manager, Chloe Deyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This will allow them to access the digital world by developing an interest in the computing space, improving communication and problem-solving abilities in a fun and engaging way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our workshops are a safe and inclusive virtual environment. And of course, they are accessible to all children and young people, no matter their age, abilities, and experiences.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ten-year-old Ayaan lives in Bolton with his mum, Sarah, dad, Farooq, and eight-year-old brother Hisham. Sarah told us:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Ayaan learnt about computer coding at school. He had been talking about it a lot, and showed an interest in learning coding again. He asked me to help him, but I didn’t know where to start. Then, I came across Family Fund’s coding workshops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For a boy who is always fidgeting, I couldn’t believe how he stayed in the same spot for this one hour workshop! He absolutely loved it. We had never signed up to anything like this before, or seen anything like this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“As soon as the workshop finished, he said, ‘It was really, really good mum!’ He spent nearly an hour showing me how much he learnt and how good it was. It has built his confidence.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
