Daisy, daughter of our Discover Digital workshop <\/a>trainer, Laura, tells us about striding out in aid of Family Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us a little bit about you, Daisy<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

“I’m seven-years-old, nearly eight. At school, I like to do computing. I also love swimming and playing with my friends. My favourite colour is pink, so we have a pink sitting room at home and my bedroom is pink too!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mini Great North Run <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

“We live close to the Great North Run. My Auntie Clare did it, and I watched her run, in my buggy. I made her a sign. Other people in our family have done the Great North Run too. I was watching it on our telly at home and I said to mammy, ‘Can I do that?’ So last year, I did the Mini Great North Run for the first time. I raised money for our local hospice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This year I did the run too. I was worried at the start because it was tricky to do it last year and very hot, and I had a stitch. But I did it in eight minutes last year, and people were cheering me on and giving me high-5s!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happened when you came home?<\/a><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

“When I got back to mammy’s house, I felt really proud of myself. But I was also sad because I saw everybody wearing their charity t-shirts, and I thought I hadn’t helped anyone. Mammy set up two JustGiving pages for me. One for London Zoo, because there is a pygmy goat there called Marmalade who I love – she is so cute! And my second page was for Family Fund.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I chose Family Fund because I love them. They help disabled children. Sometimes disabled children can’t go to school or do other things that other children might do for fun. I wanted to help them have fun too.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

“When I went to sleep that night, I had raised £30 for Family Fund. When I woke up in the morning, I had raised £100! It went up to £160, and it was amazing. I even got a card from Family Fund to say thank you.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If your friend wanted to fundraise for Family Fund, but felt worried, what would you say to them?<\/a><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

“I’d say, ‘You’ve got this!’ The run was hard, but I didn’t give up. People cheered me on, gave me high-5s and support. I would give my friend support too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“At our house, we like to make memories. I have a lovely memory of Marmalade the goat. I have a lovely memory of finishing the run, and another lovely memory when I woke up and saw how much money I raised for Family Fund. And now, the money can be raised for other families, so they can make lovely memories too.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
