There&rsquo;s some positive news that could help families raising disabled or seriously ill children from free school meals to more childcare and energy bill support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support at school<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Free breakfast clubs<\/strong>: 750 schools in England will now receive funding to run breakfast clubs, helping over 180,000 children including 70,000 in the most disadvantaged areas.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Expanded free school meals<\/strong>: By 2029, all children whose parents receive Universal Credit will be eligible for free school meals helping lift around 100,000 children out of poverty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cheaper school uniforms<\/strong>: New rules will limit the number of branded items schools can ask for saving families up to &pound;50 per child each year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Support with childcare and parenting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More childcare support<\/strong>: The government will continue expanding free childcare for working parents, with extra investment in nurseries based in schools.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Continued investment in Family Hubs<\/strong>: These services help families with young children get advice, support and community connections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Getting around and staying warm<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>&pound;3 bus fare cap extended<\/strong>: The price cap will stay in place until March 2027 helping families manage travel costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Help with energy bills<\/strong>: Through the new Warm Homes Plan, families could save up to &pound;600 a year by making homes more energy efficient and sustainable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Homes, local services and social care<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More affordable housing<\/strong>: Investment will increase in affordable homes and social housing across the UK.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extra funding for councils<\/strong>: Local authorities will receive more money for children&rsquo;s and adult social care &ndash; but how this will be used locally is still to be confirmed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Health and mental health support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More mental health support in schools<\/strong>: By 2030, every school in England is expected to have a dedicated mental health support team.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Other related support<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More support to get into work<\/strong>: &pound;400 million a year will be invested by 2028-29 (rising to &pound;1 billion) to help disabled people and those with health conditions find and stay in work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) system reform<\/strong>: Over &pound;760 million has been promised between 2026 and 2028 to help improve support for children with SEND.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>New Crisis and Resilience Fund<\/strong>: This fund will offer emergency help and preventative support to households, replacing the previous Household Support Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are welcome commitments but families need to see improvements now, not just in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-we-re-watching\">What we&rsquo;re watching<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Some proposed changes to disability benefits are concerning. There&rsquo;s talk of reforming:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Personal Independence Payment (PIP)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carer&rsquo;s Allowance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Universal Credit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This could affect the vital financial support that families rely on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&rsquo;ll be keeping a close eye on these changes and speaking up on behalf of families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-happens-next\">What happens next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the Government&rsquo;s announcements are still short on detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the coming months, we&rsquo;ll be focusing on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The UK&rsquo;s Child Poverty Strategy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new Schools White Paper this autumn, with plans for SEND reform in England.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Changes to benefits and employment support.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We&rsquo;ll keep listening to the families we support and making sure their experiences shape these important decisions.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We\u2019ve looked through the detail of today&#8217;s government spending review to share what\u2019s important, what\u2019s still unclear, and how we\u2019re making sure that families are heard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":18097,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_oasis_is_in_workflow":0,"_oasis_original":0,"_oasis_task_priority":"","_mixd_wp_review_post_reminders":[],"_mixd_wp_review_date":0,"footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[1],"class_list":["post-18094","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
