Karen Adam MSP<\/a> hosted a roundtable at the Scottish Parliament last week to discuss the findings of our latest research report, The Cost of Caring 2025<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was attended by Tom Arthur MSP<\/a>, Minister for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing, in his first official engagement since taking on the role. He acknowledged that the research findings show the injustice and inequalities often experienced by families raising disabled children and young people in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Adam, who has previously spoken about her own lived experience, also highlighted our research at First Minister’s Questions, asking what steps the Scottish Government is taking to better support carers across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Watch First Minister’s Questions\n <\/a>\n\n\n\n

The true cost of caring for a disabled child<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jeremy Balfour MSP<\/a> also joined the discussion, continuing his longstanding interest in our work and the wider issues affecting families we support in Scotland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The roundtable brought together key voices from across the third sector, including Shared Care Scotland<\/a>, Parenting Across Scotland<\/a>, Enable<\/a>, and Genetic Alliance UK<\/a>. All echoed a shared message: the urgent need for improvement in the systems and services which impact most on families’ financial security, health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Partnerships to drive meaningful change<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The event offered an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to working collaboratively with partners, families and Scottish Government to support the delivery of the changes that are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
